Hardly has a day gone by after enforcing the usage of the rear seat belt, JPJ director of enforcement Salim Parlan has pat himself on the back. He claimed the JPJ campaign to encourage rear seat passengers to buckle up a success. Who is he trying to kid? It is ridiculous. Is this how he gauges success? I'm not too sure about that.
On the very first day of the enforcement I was somewhere near the wet market in my housing area. What did I see? I saw all types of vehicles passing and to my surprise I saw only two kids in an MPV used the rear seat belts. Almost all the back passengers did not buckle up. Do you call the campaign a success? Many seemed oblivious to the law. Or maybe they couldn't be bothered at all! So on which side are you standing?
