I would be into a fallacious argument if I say we- the Malaysians can emulate even half of what the Japanese have achieved after World War 2.
They have shown to the world their strength and resiliency in facing the natural calamities that have befallen on them. They shine in their moment of darkness.
The earthquakes and tsunamis can destroy, sink and wash away their houses and even their beloved ones but their spirits remained. They are not easily demoralized because they know they can overcome.
Here again, I’m not ridiculing nor showing any disrespect for our fellow Malaysians. I’m no saint either. We have a very, very long way to go before we can call ourselves “civilized Malaysians”.
Just look around and you will surely see many, many “bad, bad” fellow Malaysians within our midst.
Take a look at some of our Yang Berhormat (members of Parliament or the state representatives). Many of us know how well they behave (or misbehave) right? So much of nonsense from them and sometimes I wonder if they have any sense at all.
Many overstayed their welcome and they still think they are indispensable. And it is sometimes even worse- their in-jokes in their sittings would put them in a bad light but they would just “laugh it off”. Where’s the respect?
Besides the road bullies, the mat rempits or even the malevolent people walking among us, we still have many “men in uniform” from many departments in the government who simply abuse their authority. No need to go into details. Many of us are already well enlightened.
Can we still be any equivalent to the Japanese?
